Enough Already!

A good friend of mine is having a difficult time with her work situation. She has been taking the easy route by letting her employees make the decisions and do as they please. Sure, they may "LIKE" her more for letting them be in charge, but not really. See, these employees are running the show. They have no respect for my friend because she doesn't stand in her power and do what's right. I think that most people want to be liked and respected. However, it all comes down to....do we want to be liked or do we want to lead our people in a direction that will create success for the company and success for the team? It's kind of like being a parent. If we allow our children to display an attitude, talk back to us and tell us what they won't do, then we are doing a huge disservice to our child if we do not correct the situation. And likewise, we are doing a huge disservice to our employees and to our company when we do not take ownership and responsibility for our decisions. It is a lot easier to play the victim and to say that our employees got angry and didn't want to follow our plan, than to step into our power and say, I am sorry you feel that way. However, this is what we are going to do -- starting today.

So, we have decisions to make....do we want to be liked or do we want to contribute to our employees and to the success of our department, ourselves and our company? I think that if we create success, we will be respected. Moreover, we will respect ourselves for taking a leap of faith, doing what is right and standing in our power.
